Maja Ellen-Lund Jensen is a BC born 3D designer-graphics artist. She has designed in studio, consulting, and manufacturing environments. While working in these capacities, she has not only has become a multifaceted artist, but she’s also gained a lot of fun ‘how-to-make-it’ knowledge.
She completed her studies in Industrial Design at the Emily Carr Institute in Vancouver.
While doing that, she worked as a 2D artist at a video game development company, lucking out by having her name on the box of an AA shipped title. That brought her all kinds of weird recognition at parties.
Turning more to design, she found herself employed at a major local RTA furniture manufacturer, using everything from Autocad to Photoshop and Dreamweaver. One thing lead to another. Upon deciding to further her computer graphics skills, she was awarded a fully paid scholarship at the Vancouver Film School.
Her new technical skills were once again put to use in the furniture industry. While working in a challenging job at a solid wood furniture manufacturer, she found herself having to learn a number of new engineering functions. Not only did she take on CNC programming, but she also designed custom products for retailers, whilst doing detailed cataloging, line drawings, costing and BOMS of the manufacturer’s new and legacy products. She also learned what EMC meant and all about wood species.
Upon leaving Whistler Creek, she was presented with a unique opportunity to work in a much, much smaller scale.
As a 3D Artist/CNC machinist at Boma, a home giftware manufacturer, she found, once more, her artistic and technical vocabulary expanding. The work included reproducing the meticulous designs of their commissioned artists as well as collaborating in designing and producing their lines of licensed giftware.
This unique mix of product, from Robert Bateman merchandise, 2010 Olympic products, to heritage themed materials for the RCMP Foundation, adheres to high aesthetic and quality standards.
Maja currently manages a small prototyping lab at Simon Fraser University in BC. In working with laser cutters, 3d scanners, 3d printers and other such machinery, she helps others realize their diverse range of projects while maintaining a safe environment.
Like many designers, she also enjoys completing work on a freelance basis, from graphics work to photography.
